The Toy Drive Brings Smiles to ASF
The Toy Drive Brings Smiles to ASF

Once again, the annual ASF Toy Drive was a huge success. This year, members from our community, surprised children from a neighborhood in Álvaro Obregón called Santa Rosa who were greatly affected by the September earthquakes. The Transportation Office made a special effort to coordinate buses and a special pick up point so that this year we could pick up our guests and bring them to the school. The students arrived at 10:30 a.m. and Upper School Student Council representatives quickly organized them into color groups. Each group participated in three activities before enjoying a nice lunch. While all of the hustle and bustle of activities were taking place, Lower School Activity Specialist Juvenal López was surveying the parents to follow up on ASF's earthquake relief plans.

After lunch, our quests reorganized into their color groups, and each one received a gift. This year, we really tried to communicate the need for gender neutral gifts for two reasons. It makes gift giving a whole lot easier, and as an inclusive and open learning establishment, we are recognizing that assigning gender to a toy is not always accurate.

ASF students also visited the Delegación Álvaro Obregón, where many families were invited to attend a big celebration. An impressive show was put together with a dancing robot and at the end, all children from the community received a toy.
