Positive Change through Creativity, Action and Service

The CAS Fair takes place in the second year (grade 12) of the IB Diploma Program and is the culminating moment after 18 months of work done by the full IB diploma students. Starting in September of their junior year, students have to engage in experiences in the areas of activity, creativity and service. During the CAS fair, they demonstrate how they engaged in these over an 18-month period. Each student’s experience is unique to them.

The goal of the CAS Fair is for students to have an opportunity to showcase their progress in CAS to their teachers, families, friends and other invited guests. The CAS fair on February 21 featured different stands showcasing a variety of student-led projects. By exhibiting photos and videos of their work and sharing testimonies of their experiences, the senior students had the chance to share their own learning experiences and by doing so, encouraged visitors to learn more about positive, social change.

In terms of Action, Javier Bárcenas explained how his project, which consisted of reforesting areas of Santa Fe, allowed him to “see a real impact in his community.” In terms of Creativity, Miranda Fraser spoke about the art workshops she offered underprivileged children from her neighborhood, and stated that “these children were very thankful of the opportunity of being able to take a class and experiment with different kinds of paint and materials they normally couldn’t afford.” Isabella Peluzzo, Juliana Gutiérrez, and Pablo Gómez, discovered how to “creatively direct their passion for singing towards positive action”, and visited different hospitals to sing Disney songs to sick children. In terms of Service, Inés Hinojosa explained how she began a new initiative on campus with the Omega club, offering older adults free technology lessons, to improve their skills, and concluded by reflecting that through CAS she discovered how to become a better team-player and build stronger bonds with her entire community.
