Last May 4th, the Parent Association hosted a Meet n' Greet with author Jeff Kinney (Diary of a Wimpy Kid series) for some of his biggest fans, Lower School Students and--let’s admit it-- some older fans from Upper School and Faculty.

Kinney told the story of how he got to be a cartoonist and author. During childhood, he already loved comic books. He was a fan of Donald Duck, Peanuts, and Big Nate. He then started writing his own diary, to which he added illustrations drawn by him. As he struggled to read and write long texts as an effect of his Attention Deficit Disorder, he really took to drawing.

After being discovered at New York Comic Con, he published his first book at the age of 28. Today, his books have been translated into 69 languages. And it has given him the opportunity to meet people like Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Moreover, he has produced films based on his books, currently streamed on Disney+.

Kinney finished his conference by confessing that Mexico City has the most beautiful bookstores in the world. And he then shared with students the importance of reading books:

“Books allow you to step into somebody else’s head, and that teaches you empathy”.

After the conference, the Lower School groups that won the 8th Virtual Race spent a few extra minutes with Jeff, where he signed their copies of Diary of A Wimpy Kid.
