Heading towards a bright future: The Virtual College Fair

Heading towards a bright future: The Virtual College Fair

On September 24, 2021, hundreds of students were welcomed to the 38th Annual College Fair. The event took place virtually and was in partnership with eleven other international schools from all around Mexico.

The aim of the fair was to have all of our students engage with the process of identifying the universities--and programs--they might aspire to attend.

The event included presentations that, for example, demystified the admissions process in highly selective universities; aided them in crafting an effective Common App essay; provided guidance with regards to applying to U.S. and UK universities; explored how to investigate universities in Mexico; provided them support with crafting an effective UCAS Personal Statement; provided information about how to navigate SAT testing during the pandemic; as well as offering information about careers in healthcare, as well as many more, all presented by universities from across Mexico and around the world. Attendance at the event was mandatory for all Upper School students.

Approximately 160 institutions from the United States, Mexico, Canada, Asia, and Europe were present at the fair.

Representatives from each institution gave thematic workshops about the college search and application process on the afternoons just prior to the fair. During the first block of workshops on Wednesday alone, more than 600 students were in attendance.

During the fair itself, students and family members were able to enter university virtual booths with a mic and camera on, or enter webinar style and use a chat function to ask questions or to just stay connected and listen in. This is the second year in a row that ASF and co-hosts collaborate with an external edtech company, WebiFairs, to bring the best possible virtual fair platform to our community.

For maximal engagement, Upper School students had time dedicated to attend the fair and a modified bell schedule was in place to balance instructional time. Many outstanding universities participated in orienting students to find their best fit. Schools like Babson College, NYU, ITAM, IE University, The University of British Columbia, UC San Diego, IBERO, The University of Sheffield, among others, were thrilled to host informative webinars and over 2000 total registrants were ready to experience the fair!
