ASF Boys and Girls Varsity Soccer Conquers ASOMEX!

The ASF boys' and girls' varsity soccer teams travelled to Monterrey to participate in the Juvenil C ASOMEX annual tournament. In total, 38 players (19 on each team) represented our school in exciting matches that earned both teams the championship.

During the girls' final vs. JFK, Regina Adame scored our only goal of the match. JFK caught up in the last minutes and the match went to penalties. During the penalties, Fernanda Cárdenas, the ASF goal keeper, stopped all three JFK penalty shots taken, a remarkable feat at any level. Senior Captain Tammy Katthain, Clau Michel, and Regina Adame courageously converted on their three penalty shots. This outstanding ASF performance during penalties resulted in a 3-0 victory, handing the championship to the girls. This was the 9th straight final for the ASF varsity girls and our 4th championship in nine years. Kudos to the girls!

Our boys' varsity team faced a two-point goal deficit with six minutes to play in the final match vs ASF Monterrey. In a miraculous comeback, Senior Captain Antonio García scored a free kick and sophomore Íñigo Odriozola equalized in last six minutes of the match, forcing it to penalties! In a best of five format, both teams were very efficient. Antonio García, Guillermo Hernandez, Pablo Ocejo, Adam Wiaktor and Lucas Rodríguez all found the back of the net to lead our boys to a 5-4 victory in penalties. Goalkeeper, Jorge Pablo Francoz played a strong match throughout to help secure this victory. This victory gives ASF back to back championships at the varsity level of ASOMEX.
