Upper School
The Upper School at ASF is characterized by the diversity in course and extracurricular activities for students. Our learning environment challenging and provides students with all the tools necessary to learn through a university-preparatory curriculum. Students develop analytical and creative abilities through coursework in core subjects to meet university eligibility requirements and extend their learning through service to impact different aspects of society.
Academic Overview
All students follow program requirements for the United States high school diploma, with optional coursework available through other programs listed below. All students continue in the IB Middle Years Programme for grades 9 and 10 and then can decide to enroll in the IB Diploma. In order to graduate, they must complete units in English, language and literature other than English, humanities, lab science, math, fine arts, technology, health, physical education and electives. Students also have the following programs available to enhance their education experience:
- The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme: A two-year program that offers students advanced level work in a variety of areas. These courses can waive university courses depending on the university they enroll in. Exam fees are required.
- Advanced Placement: These courses offer college credit upon successful completion of a final exam. The Advanced Placement International Diploma is also available to students who qualify by meeting specific AP coursework requirements. These courses can waive university courses depending on the university they enroll in. Exam fees are required.
- Mexican University Program: This program offers students in the Mexican program validation of coursework for entry into public and private Mexican universities. A registration fee is required.
Counselors
The Upper School Counseling Office endeavors to support students throughout their four years with academic planning and achievement, social-emotional wellness, and career and college planning. In order to offer students support services, each of the four grade level counselors rotates with their class, creating lasting connections.
Additional support is offered to students through the college counselor and school psychologist.
Students and parents may make appointments to meet with the grade level counselor, college counselor, or school psychologist at any point in during the school year.

Student Activities
ASF not only cares about students' academic advancement. The arts, athletics and other activities play a key role. Sometimes there could be up to ten to twenty activities going on (or off) at campus at any given time. ASF is fortunate to have an Activity Specialist in each of the 4 divisions. The activity specialist is responsible for building a comprehensive program that focuses on student leadership and community building among students, faculty and parents. Each Division plans and oversees a broad range of activities and events that enhance the school’s overall social, cultural, service learning, recreational and educational efforts, particularly within the division. The activity specialist is responsible for overseeing all student activity organizations and social events and appoints and supports faculty sponsors and club sponsors.
