Oscar Zambrano ('99)

Chief Engineer/Partner, Zampol Productions

After graduating with Honors from Berklee College of Music and taking on a succession of sound engineer jobs, in 2004, Oscar Zambrano founded Zampol Productions, a sound engineer company which provides the highest quality in mastering, mixing, and recording in New York City. Oscar is an award-winning Master and Mixing Engineer with 10 years of experience working with multi-platinum artists, film and television program creators and multinational companies. His passion for mastering knows no boundaries, earning him multiple Grammy nominations and a Grammy award for his contribution in Pablo Ziegler's "Jazz Tango" album. Oscar is committed to inspiring generations to adapt to the new dynamics of the music industry and he gives back by currently teaching at Berklee College of Music. For his outstanding career and achievements, Oscar is a Distinguished Alumnus. He humbly tells us his story at ASF and why he cherishes our school that he attended for 14 years.

Oscar's family has long-attended ASF, from his mom to most of his aunts and uncles. Both his parents wanted their children to be fluent in English and Spanish and they liked the school's high academic standards and diverse student body. After attending the school from kindergarten to Upper School, Oscar has accumulated hundreds of great memories but the one that stands out the most is of his Upper School band. They played in a lot of different venues and ended up recording a CD. "Having the experience of being in a recording studio made me want to study music and specialize in engineering. To this day, the band members are my best friends."

When asked about how ASF impacted his professional life, he talks about ASF's outstanding music program. He took every opportunity to get involved with music since Middle School, joining the jazz band, the rock band and even playing in the pit for the musicals. "Being so involved with music made me realize that I wanted to work in the industry. ASF taught me how to think outside the box and adapt to different scenarios which is key in my line of work."

Oscar is currently an Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music and has worked with artists including Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, Max Richter, Winton Marsalis, DJ Khaled, Nass, I'm With Her, Miguel, Arizona, Prince Royce, The Shins, La Santa Cecilia, Blake Shelton, Rascal Flats, War on Drugs, Phoenix, Train, Portugal The Man, Wyclef Jean, Arcade Fire, Jack Johnson, Fifth Harmony, DMX, TLC, St. Vincent, Charlie Puth, Alejandro Sanz, and Juanes.

When asked to give current advice to ASF students, Oscar suggests, "Take advantage of everything ASF offers, from the exceptionally qualified teachers, to their method of creative and critical thinking to field trips. More importantly, cherish the friendships you will make."

Oscar's recent projects include and are not limited to the Frozen Original Broadway Cast Recording, the Harry Styles, Sting and Kelly Clarkson Spotify Singles mastering, the "An American in Paris" Broadway Cast Recording, mastering "The Colorado" music from the Motion Picture and ZOE's "Foro Sol En Vivo". When asked about the challenges he sees in the future, he reflects on how we should be aware of the constant changes in our time and how fast paced our world is. The true challenge he says is to try to keep up and more importantly to contribute to the constant evolution of things whatever industry you work in. "ASF always pushed me to think creatively and have a voice for what I thought was right. There was always a platform to express yourself and this has proven invaluable to me." When talking about the music industry he says that the way people listen to music has changed, dropping record sales dramatically. "There will always be music, but always ask yourself how to adapt to make it a business."
