Alfredo remembered ASF as a welcoming school that provided its students with an exchange of ideas from an array of different cultures. He appreciated learning in English, and meeting friends from all over the world.
During our 2020 ASF Talks, we remembered Alfredo and his distinguished professional career, and were honored to have his family in the audience. Alfredo was a distinguished alumnus because of his altruism, his love for Mexico, his political and diplomatic career, and for his representation of the School's values of global citizenship, international perspective and public service.
After graduating in 1974, Alfredo studied Economics in the National School of Economics (UNAM) and public administration at Cambridge University with a degree from the University of London. He began an exemplary public service career working in the International Monetary Fund, Banco de México, and then as an Ambassador to Canada and Japan. He was a key negotiator in the North American Free Trade Agreement in 1988, and had a pivotal role in Infonavit (the national workers housing fund) and Bancomext or the National Bank of Foreign Trade of Mexico.
The ASF community remembers him fondly.
