The Executive Director is responsible for school administration. In turn, the executive director delegates many of the responsibilities for day-to-day operations to his administrative team, including the director of academic affairs, the five division heads and their respective assistants and other administrative officers.
Mark Iver Sylte, Executive Director
Graduated from Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota in 1983. After working for several years, he returned to school to earn a Master’s Degree in Russian and Chinese History from Cornell University in 1989. He then moved overseas to Asia, working and continuing his studies, including time as a Fulbright-Hayes dissertation fellow in Vladivostok, Russia, researching in the State Archives and the Communist Party Archives of the former Soviet Union, and on a Hu Shih Fellowship at the Academia Sinica in Taiwan. He remains joyously ABD to this day.
He and his wife, Hsiaoling Chung, returned newly married to the States in 1996 to begin careers in private, independent boarding schools on the east coast of the United States. Mark first served the Lawrenceville School outside Princeton, New Jersey for eleven years as a classroom teacher and department chair before moving to Saint Andrew’s School, an Episcopal day-boarding school in Boca Raton, Florida where he was Head of Upper School. He and his family next moved overseas to Shanghai in 2010, where he was appointed as Head of School for Yew Chung International School of Shanghai (Gubei) before moving to Vietnam in 2013 as Head of School for Saigon South International School in Ho Chi Minh City, a 1060-student private, independent, international school.
Mark and Hsiaoling have been married for twenty years. They have four children: one is studying history, economics, and East Asian Studies at McGill University in Montreal, another one studying Hotel Management at Hong Kong Polytechnic, and two more who attend ASF.

Erin Trautman was born in Virginia, but due to her father’s job with Ford Motor Company, moved around the U.S. and abroad for most of her life. After finishing her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood from Ohio University, she moved to Chicago to begin her career. Following teaching in Chicago Public Schools for two years, Erin began working on her first Master’s degree at DePaul University in Reading and Learning Disabilities. After graduating in 1997, she moved to Mexico and began her career at ASF as a resource teacher within the Services for Academic Success department. Following some time off to begin her family in 1999, she returned in 2008 as the reading specialist and interventionist for the Early Childhood Center. During this time, she studied another Master's of Education in International Administration from Endicott College. After serving for seven years as the interventionist in the ECC, she was hired as a Lower School Dean of Students, where she has worked for the last three years. Erin has been a Foundation member for twelve years and is a proud parent of two ASF Upper School students.
Jordan’s educational experience began in his home state of Wisconsin, where he studied at the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse. He majored in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood. After he graduated, Jordan moved to Las Vegas and taught second grade at John C. Vanderburg. After visiting Mexico during vacation, Jordan applied to ASF and began his career in Mexico in 2007 as a third grade teacher. Jordan also held the position of dean of students.
Jordan also holds a Master’s degree in Science in Multidisciplinary Studies from State University of New York, College at Buffalo, NY and a Master’s of Education in International Administration from Endicott College, Beverly Massachusetts, MA.
Robert Lewis is a native of Connellsville, Pennsylvania, a town located southeast of the City of Pittsburgh. He began his career 25 years ago as a middle and high school social studies teacher in the Pittsburgh public schools. He has also held positions as assistant principal, principal, and central office administrator in public and charter school systems in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State of New York. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a master’s degree in History and a Doctor of Education in School Administration from The University of Pittsburgh. In addition, he holds an MBA with a concentration in Human Resources from Keller Graduate School of Business at DeVry University.
Over the last 10 years, Dr. Lewis served as director of public school choice with the New York City Department of Education, regional vice president of Lighthouse Academies, Inc. (NYC) and an English instructor and academic advisor for business executives at Georgal Idiomas in Mexico City.
William Peat is originally from England, where he taught prior to joining HSC, Canada's largest independent, co-ed, day school. There he taught Economics before becoming Vice Principal, and in 2015, became Academic Vice Principal, focused exclusively on academics.
William completed a B.Sc. from the State University of New York in 1989. He graduated from Harvard University in 1994 with a Master of Liberal Arts, concentrating in government. He is in the process of completing his Ph.D. at the University of Toronto in educational leadership and policy. His research examines the role of private education in the processes of social mobility.
William is married to Barbara. They are the parents of two daughters. Lauren, a poet and teacher, is an alumna of the University of Toronto and a graduate of BU’s MFA program; Heather, graduated from George Brown College and works for a successful start-up in Toronto.

Diego holds a Bachelor of Arts in Latin American Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles; Master's in Education from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a leadership certificate from the Principal's Training Center.
Before taking on her current role in 2010, Patsy Hubp had already worked at ASF for nearly six years, four of those in the admission setting. She has also been an active volunteer through Institutional Advancement. Besides her professional roles at the school, Ms. Hubp has held top level positions in companies like Chase Manhattan Bank and Bank of America.
Violeta Ayala joined ASF in 2011, in a then-newly created role: director of communications. She brought with her nearly 15 years of experience at firms such as Chrysler Financial and SANLUIS Corporación. Ms. Ayala holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (Mexico City campus) and a master’s degree in communication and visual arts from Emerson College in Boston.
ASF’s new Director of Finance joined the school in 2019 after a career in the corporate world. Over the last 21 years, Homero Figueroa has held direction positions in companies like Grupo Salinas, Cash Converters and most recently at CIE. He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Escuela Bancaria y Comercial and a MBA from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México.
An educator by vocation, Elisa Penela has more than 20 years of experience in private and public schools in Mexico, at the elementary, secondary and university levels. She has also worked at companies like Telmex and Procter & Gamble. She holds a master’s degree in school administration from the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey and has participated in continuing education in human resources.
ASF’s director of technology came to the school in 2012 from the corporate world. Over the last 16 years, Javier Landeros has held managerial positions in companies like Coca-Cola FEMSA, the Ford Motor Company's Dealership Network and most recently at Alsea. He has a bachelor’s degree in electronic systems engineering and an MBA, both from the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey.
Cecilia has been working in nonprofit organizations within fundraising, crowdfunding and event planning and has worked for companies like Sodexho and Transportación Marítima Mexicana. She holds a bachelor's degree in Hotel Management from the Universidad Iberoamericana and a diploma in Social Management from Fundación Merced and ORT University. She has been an active volunteer in ASF since she returned to Mexico City, six years ago, after living abroad with her family for 12 years. Cecilia has two children who are students at ASF.
José Luis is an architect from the UNAM, has a certification as Project Management Professional and a LEED AP accreditation, and has extensive experience in the management and operation of large-scale design and construction projects.
He has worked in companies specialized in Project Management such as Parsons, CBRE and Coldwell Banker, and in design offices specialized in Educational Infrastructure.
