ASF's Girls Varsity Soccer Team Slays the Field!
We are proud to share that ASF's Girls Varsity Team is currently competing in the CONADEIP League, the strongest league in Mexico, formed by leading national institutions like the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Universidad Iberoamericana and Universidad Anáhuac.
On Wednesday, November 8, the Girls Varsity Team visited the Tecnológico de Monterrey for kick-off held at 12:00 p.m, against the rival team, TEC CEM, which is a major player in the competition. The TEC CEM team has qualified for the Nationals Competition, where teams from other states participate to become National Champions (Guadalajara, Puebla, Monterrey, Torreón, Querétaro) on several occasions. TEC CEM has also won the National Championship for Girls Soccer a number of times.
During yesterday's game, ASF girls battled hard during both halves of the game, allowing TEC CEM to only achieve two shots on target throughout the entire game. ASF girls took the lead early during the second half, thanks to a goal scored by Laura Herrera (grade 9) assisted by María de Lluch (grade 10). ASF girls sealed the win with a last minute goal scored by Miranda Castillo (grade 11) assisted by Laura Herrera (grade 9).
This victory puts the girl in a great position facing the second half of the tournament, giving them a great chance to accomplish the only spot to qualify to nationals to be played in Guadalajara in the month of April. A lot of the players are travelling to Tampico for the ASOMEX C Menor Tournament, which they have won 3 years in a row, (Torreón, 2014, Torreón, 2015, Mexico City, 2016).
