ASF prepares for U.S. elections

It's been a long and polemic lead up to the 2016 U.S. presidential election, and the bicultural community at The American School Foundation has been monitoring the situation closely.

In the final weeks leading up to the elections north of the border, the students and school leadership are incorporating the upcoming event into classes and the curriculum.

ASF is hosting a free debate between two leading figures of the major U.S. political parties in Mexico – both of whom are ASF alumni – on October 27 at 3:00 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center. Larry Rubin, the president of the Republican Party in Mexico will debate Dr. Juan de Dios Vázquez, founder of Mexico with Hillary, and all community members are invited.

Grade 4 students are studying the characteristics of leaders and leadership, while grade 5 students are studying how government influences society. Student Council elections are showing Lower School students how democracy really works.

Middle School students are studying the four major candidates and their different stances on the main issues – including taking online quizzes – before practicing registering and voting themselves in their own MS election.

Upper School students will watch highlights from the three U.S. presidential debates, discuss the important issues and, on the day after the election, analyze the result and what it means for Mexico and Mexicans living in the U.S.

As global citizens, ASF students are taking great interest in an important election that affects all here in the community, U.S. Americans and Mexicans as well as those of any nation.
